Employee Certification

When employed with the Minot Family YMCA, both lifeguard and CPR certification or re-certification are reimbursed.

Learn to Save Lives

Did you know that drowning is the sixth leading cause of unintentional injury death for people of all ages, and the second leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 14 years? You can help bring that statistic down - Learn to save lives in the water at our Lifeguard Certification course.

Make an Impact

Lifeguarding and teaching about water safety is an amazing experience - even more when what your teaching is saving a life! In our Red Cross certified classes, you will learn to teach people how to be safe in, on, and around the water, working with people of various ages and abilities.

Safety Education

As part of our commitment to social responsibility, YMCA offers a variety of American Red Cross safety education courses, including CPR/AED and First Aid, Lifeguarding, and Babysitting Trainings.

All YMCA Safety Education courses are taught by certified American Red Cross instructors. Many of these classes come with an American Red Cross certification, as well as hands on practice and training to prepare you to handle a variety of situations skillfully and professionally. Attendance at all class times listed is mandatory.​

CPR Certification

Red Cross CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and AED (automated external defibrillator) training and certification meets the needs of workplace responders, professional rescuers school staffs, professional responders and healthcare providers, as well as the general public.

Lifeguard Courses

Lifeguard Certification

American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses have a modern design to reinforce skills that improve learning outcomes in an engaging and accessible way.​ Upon successful completion of the Lifeguarding course, you will receive a Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid certification, which is valid for two years and accepted nationwide.

Fee: $350

​

Prerequisite: 

  • All fees must be paid the day prior to the class start date.

  • You must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of your course.

  • Swim 150 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing, then tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs, then swim 50 yards.

  • Complete a timed retrieval of a 10lb brick within 1 min & 40 sec.

Day & Time: Friday at 5:00PM, Saturday at 9AM, and Sunday at9AM

​Lifeguard Re-certification

The Lifeguarding Recertification course is designed to refresh your knowledge and skills and recertify you for another two years. To participate in the Lifeguarding Recertification class you must have a current American Red Cross lifeguarding certification, or certification expired by no more than 30 days.

Prerequisite: Current Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED or Shallow Water Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate; All fees must be paid the day prior to class start date.

Note: If the Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate is expired, participants must take the full Lifeguarding or Shallow Water Lifeguarding course.

Babysitting Certification 

Designed primarily for youth ages 11 and older, this American Red Cross course will prepare students to be better babysitters. Topics include how to provide care for infants and children; how to stay safe; what to do in an emergency; how to choose age-appropriate activities; and how to recognize and handle a variety of behaviors. Students will also learn the basics of starting a babysitting business as well as receive your Pediatric CPR Certification, which is valid for two years and accepted nationwide.
